The Master of Theology (Th.M.) program is designed for M.Div.graduates of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo (ETSC) or those with a comparable theological education (MDiv, etc.) who desire to sharpen the skills and deepen the knowledge they acquired during their previous theological studies. ETSC offers the Th.M. degree in several areas of specialization – Biblical studies, Christianity in the Middle East, Systematic Theology – though the specializations offered in a given year may depend upon student interest and faculty availability.
The student must complete 36 credits of work, with 27 credits of this being for course work and 9 credits being for a thesis. For part-time students this can be completed in two academic years; and for full-time students it can be completed in one year with some additional time in the summer term. The thesis is to be between 15,000 and 17,000 words, and the students must pass an oral examination based upon it. This project is programmed to be completed in the fourth semester of the two-year program or the summer term of the one-year program. Courses and thesis topic will be determined in consultation with the student’s faculty advisor and the Director of Graduate Studies.
The deadline for completing all requirements for the Th.M. degree is three years from the date of first registration. An extension beyond this deadline requires special approval from the Graduate Studies Committee.
